Public Restrooms near Washington Square Park
The park house restrooms and their hours, then 19 restroom places on the map within a mile, from Union Square to the Hudson River piers, with the city's own list alongside.
One restroom in the park, more in the playgrounds around it
Washington Square Park has one restroom building, the park house on its west side, and the rest of Greenwich Village's public restrooms are mostly in small neighborhood playgrounds, the public libraries and, to the west, the Hudson River piers. Within half a mile of the park our data holds only five restroom places, so the map opens on a 1 mile radius, a 20 minute walk, which reaches Union Square, the West Village and the piers. That gives 19 restroom places (a facility mapped as several points counts once), 18 recorded as open to the public and 7 as wheelchair accessible.
The City of New York publishes its own list of public restrooms, with hours, and it has more in this mile than our map does. The sections below use it, and say where it and our data disagree. Its rows were last updated in June 2025, and the city notes that availability "is subject to change due to maintenance needs, construction, or other factors".
Washington Square Park House
The city's list gives the park's restroom, "Washington Square Park Western Half", as open year round, "8am-4pm, Open later seasonally", "Partially Accessible", with men's and women's rooms and changing stations. Our data names it Washington Square Park House and records it as open to the public and free; it also recorded hours of 7 AM to 5 PM, wheelchair access and no baby changing, all three of which the city's list contradicts, so the list on this page leaves them out.

Union Square, the piers and the libraries
Most NYC Parks restrooms in this mile, in Downing Street, Vesuvio, Bleecker and Houston Street playgrounds and in Evelyn's Playground in Union Square, are listed as "8am-4pm, Open later seasonally". The exceptions on the city's list stay open later:
- Union Square Park: "12:00pm-11:00pm", fully accessible, with changing stations.
- Hudson River Park, Pier 45 at the end of Christopher Street: "7am - 12am", fully accessible. Our data names it Pier 45 Comfort Station.
- Madison Square Park, at the northern edge of the mile: a single-stall automatic toilet run by NYC DOT and JCDecaux, "8am-8pm"; the city notes "this unit costs $.25 to use."
- Public libraries: Jefferson Market Library on Sixth Avenue, Hudson Park, Mulberry Street and Ottendorfer each have a single-stall all-gender restroom with a changing station, open during library hours (most open at 10 or 11 AM and are closed on Sunday).

Not checked: NYC Parks' and Hudson River Park's own pages, which refused automated reads when this page was written. Tompkins Square Park, at the eastern edge of the mile, appears on the city's list twice, once as operational and once as not, so we cannot say whether its restroom is open.
Every restroom on the map, nearest first
19 places within 1 mile of Washington Square Park, from 22 map points (a facility mapped as several points, such as a men's and a women's room, is one place). Distances are straight-line from the center of the area. Each row shows only what OpenStreetMap records for it, after cleaning: a row without hours or access details means the record has none we could show, not that the restroom is closed or locked. OpenStreetMap data from November 2026.
"Open now" and "Closed now" appear only where OpenStreetMap lists a restroom's opening hours: 2 places here, and 1.7% of the US restroom records we use. Those hours are added by volunteers and may be out of date, and "Hours not listed" means only that no hours are recorded.
