Public Restrooms in Lower Manhattan
23 restroom places within a mile of Wall Street, from the Battery and Battery Park City to the South Street side. 11 wheelchair accessible. Plus the city's own list, with hours.
Restrooms at the edges, not on the streets
The Financial District's streets are narrow and lined with office towers, and the public restrooms are mostly at the edges of the island: in the Battery at the southern tip, along the Hudson in Battery Park City and on the East River esplanade. Within half a mile of Wall Street our data holds ten restroom places, which reach all three; the map opens on a 1 mile radius, a 20 minute walk, which also takes in Battery Park City's northern parks, Columbus Park in Chinatown and the Brooklyn waterfront across the river. That gives 23 restroom places (a facility mapped as several points counts once), 15 recorded as open to the public and 11 as wheelchair accessible; 22 have no hours in the data.
Two things are not on our map but are on the city's own list: a restroom in Fulton Street subway station, which the city's list says is "located outside of fare gates and open to the wider public", open "from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., with a one-hour closure for cleaning from 12 noon-1 p.m.", and one in the privately owned public space at 180 Maiden Lane, a single-stall all-gender restroom open Monday to Saturday 8:30 AM to 10 PM and Sunday 10 AM to 7 PM.
The Battery and Castle Clinton
The Battery Conservancy, which looks after the park at the tip of Manhattan, says: "There are three publicly accessible restrooms in The Battery. They are located outside the View at Battery Park Restaurant, Castle Clinton National Monument, and adjacent to the Battery Bikeway on Battery Place." It gives their hours as "9:00am to 4:30pm".
Our data has three records there, none with access or hours recorded: one near the View restaurant, a record beside Castle Clinton and one by Battery Place. The city's restroom list, whose rows were last updated in June 2025, marks the Castle Clinton restroom operational with those same hours, but marks two NYC Parks restroom buildings in Battery Park (its "Zone 1" and "Zone 2") as not operational. The Conservancy's page was last changed in March 2025 and the city's list in June 2025, so neither tells us which are open today. The list below follows the city's list, the later of the two: it names the Castle Clinton restroom, with the city's hours, as open to the public, and marks the building near the View as listed as closed.

Battery Park City, the esplanade and the ferry terminal
The city's list gives NYC Parks restrooms at Battery Park City's southern end, Imagination Playground and the East River Waterfront Esplanade as open "8am-4pm, Open later seasonally", the esplanade's and the playground's with changing stations; it lists Battery Park City Authority restrooms by the ferry terminal on the Hudson and at Teardrop Park, without hours. It marks the John Street Snack Bar restroom on the East River side as "Temp Closed". Our data records a public restroom at that spot, so check before walking there.
At the Staten Island Ferry's Whitehall Terminal our data records a restroom as open to the public, free, wheelchair accessible, with baby changing and open 24 hours. We found no official page that confirms it, so that is OpenStreetMap's record alone.

The 9/11 Memorial and Museum
The 9/11 Memorial & Museum's visitor guidelines say: "Access to public restrooms inside the Memorial Museum is intended for ticketed Memorial Museum patrons only." In "extenuating situations" its security staff may let someone without a ticket in, through the museum's public entrance on the north side of the Museum Pavilion and security screening, escorted to and from the restroom. Our data records no restroom on the Memorial plaza itself.

Not checked: NYC Parks' own restroom pages and the Battery Park City Authority's site, which refused automated reads when this page was written. The hours above come from the city's dataset and the Conservancy, not from those pages.
Every restroom on the map, nearest first
23 places within 1 mile of Wall Street, from 24 map points (a facility mapped as several points, such as a men's and a women's room, is one place). Distances are straight-line from the center of the area. Each row shows only what OpenStreetMap records for it, after cleaning: a row without hours or access details means the record has none we could show, not that the restroom is closed or locked. OpenStreetMap data from November 2026.
"Open now" and "Closed now" appear only where OpenStreetMap lists a restroom's opening hours: 1 place here, and 1.7% of the US restroom records we use. Those hours are added by volunteers and may be out of date, and "Hours not listed" means only that no hours are recorded.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are there public restrooms near Wall Street?
Not on Wall Street itself in our data; the nearest record, about 60 yards from Wall Street at Broad Street, is inside 1 Wall Street, whose ground floors are the Printemps department store; OpenStreetMap tags it as public use allowed, but no official source says so, so we do not count it as open to the public. The City of New York's public restroom list puts one in Fulton Street subway station, "located outside of fare gates and open to the wider public", 7 AM to 7 PM with a one-hour cleaning closure from noon, about a quarter of a mile north. Our map shows 23 restroom places within a mile of Wall Street, 15 recorded as open to the public, most of them in the parks at the island's edge.
Where are the restrooms in Battery Park?
The Battery Conservancy says: "There are three publicly accessible restrooms in The Battery. They are located outside the View at Battery Park Restaurant, Castle Clinton National Monument, and adjacent to the Battery Bikeway on Battery Place." Their hours are 9 AM to 4:30 PM. The city's restroom list, last updated in June 2025, marks two Battery Park restroom buildings as not operational, so one or more may be shut when you arrive.
Can I use the restrooms at the 9/11 Memorial?
Not without a museum ticket. The 9/11 Memorial & Museum says "access to public restrooms inside the Memorial Museum is intended for ticketed Memorial Museum patrons only", with exceptions "in extenuating situations" at the discretion of its security staff, who escort the visitor. The Memorial plaza outside has none in our data.
What time do the park restrooms in Lower Manhattan close?
The city's restroom list gives most NYC Parks restrooms here as "8am-4pm, Open later seasonally", and The Battery Conservancy gives 9 AM to 4:30 PM for The Battery's. For later in the day, the city lists the Fulton Street subway station restroom (until 7 PM), a privately owned public space at 180 Maiden Lane (until 10 PM Monday to Saturday, 7 PM Sunday) and the public libraries.
