Public Restrooms near Times Square
29 restrooms within a mile of Times Square, from Bryant Park and Herald Square to Columbus Circle. 17 wheelchair accessible, 8 free, 1 with hours recorded.
Start with Bryant Park
Times Square is the busiest pedestrian spot in the country and has no public restroom of its own in our data. The answer most New Yorkers give is Bryant Park, 0.31 miles southeast at 42nd Street and 6th Avenue: a staffed, free public restroom open daily 8 AM to 10 PM (hours subject to change), with a changing station, run by the Bryant Park Corporation. Details and the accessible entrances are in the next section.
Because the square's own surroundings are so thin on restrooms (within half a mile our data holds only seven, the others unnamed and mostly without details), this page opens the map on a 1 mile radius, a 20 minute walk on Midtown's flat grid, which takes in Bryant Park, Herald Square, the Port Authority side of 8th Avenue, Rockefeller Center and Columbus Circle. That gives 29 restroom places (a facility mapped as several points counts once), 18 recorded as open to the public and 3 as customers only. Most records carry no hours.
Bryant Park: the restroom everyone is sent to
Bryant Park, between 40th and 42nd Streets behind the New York Public Library, is 0.31 miles from Times Square and is run by the Bryant Park Corporation. Its hours page describes "our public restroom" as "open daily, 8am-10pm", with the footnote "hours are subject to change": "staffed daily and featuring piped in classical music, Italian tiles, fresh flowers, a changing station, and automatic toilets and fixtures ... Located on the northeast corner of the park by 42nd Street."
Its accessibility page says: "Accessible restrooms in Bryant Park are located on the south side of the park adjacent to Joe Coffee. Additional restrooms are located at the northeast corner of the park at 38 West 42nd Street." It adds that "there are additional accessible restrooms in the skating area and the Lodge", but "you may only enter the skating area with a timed reservation", and that "there are changing tables in all Bryant Park restrooms located in the northeast corner of the park at 38 West 42nd Street."
The park itself is open daily year round from 7 AM, closing at 10 PM from January to April and in October, 11 PM from May to September, and in November and December at 10 PM Monday to Wednesday and midnight Thursday to Sunday; it closes early on New Year's Eve.

Columbus Circle, Herald Square and the rest of Midtown
At the north end of the mile, our data records two free, wheelchair accessible restrooms in The Shops at Columbus Circle, the mall at the southwest corner of Central Park (recorded as public, but the mall's website says nothing about restrooms, so the list shows them as store restrooms whose public access is not confirmed), and two restrooms just inside the southern end of Central Park, whose recorded hours match the park's own and so are not shown as restroom hours. To the west, towards the river, the data names a New York City Parks comfort station at DeWitt Clinton Park, free, accessible and with baby changing (its recorded hours run past midnight and are not shown, by our hours rule). To the south it records restrooms around 34th Street, mostly without hours. Where the City of New York's public restroom list (last updated June 2025) includes one of these, the list below gives its name and hours from the city; the rest are shown as OpenStreetMap records them.
Not covered: the subway. The MTA's station restrooms are not in our data for this area, and we have not checked which Midtown stations have one open.
Accessible restrooms and baby changing
Within a mile of Times Square our data records 17 wheelchair accessible restrooms and 6 with a baby changing table. Bryant Park's accessible restrooms are on the south side of the park next to Joe Coffee, per the Corporation's accessibility page, with changing tables at the 42nd Street corner.
Every restroom on the map, nearest first
29 places within 1 mile of Times Square, from 34 map points (a facility mapped as several points, such as a men's and a women's room, is one place). Distances are straight-line from the center of the area. Each row shows only what OpenStreetMap records for it, after cleaning: a row without hours or access details means the record has none we could show, not that the restroom is closed or locked. OpenStreetMap data from October 2026.
"Open now" and "Closed now" appear only where OpenStreetMap lists a restroom's opening hours: 1 place here, and 1.7% of the US restroom records we use. Those hours are added by volunteers and may be out of date, and "Hours not listed" means only that no hours are recorded.
