Public Restrooms at the Ferry Building and Embarcadero
17 restroom places within half a mile of the Ferry Building, from Embarcadero Plaza and Embarcadero Center to Salesforce Park. 13 wheelchair accessible, 3 with baby changing.
Restrooms at the foot of Market Street
The Ferry Building stands where Market Street meets the Embarcadero, with the ferry piers behind it, Embarcadero Plaza across the roadway and the Embarcadero Center towers beyond. The map above opens on the 17 restroom places our data holds within half a mile of the building's clock tower (a facility mapped as several points counts once). 11 are recorded as open to the public, 2 as customers only, 13 as wheelchair accessible and 3 with a baby changing table; 14 have no hours in the data.
Three operators publish something about their restrooms here, and each is below: the Ferry Building itself, the city's Pit Stop on Embarcadero Plaza, and the transit authority that runs Salesforce Transit Center and its rooftop park.
Inside the Ferry Building
The Ferry Building's visit page answers the question directly: "There are two sets of public restrooms in the north and south ferry terminal pass throughs of the building. All are ADA accessible." The building "opens at 6am and closes at 10pm, but marketplace shops have their own hours, which may vary."
Our data maps both sets, a group of restroom rooms at the north end of the building and another at the south end, listed below as the Ferry Building north and south restrooms. OpenStreetMap records both as open to the public, as the building's own page does, so both count as public on this page and the map's answer box can send you to them. The north group carries hours of 7 AM to 10 PM daily, wheelchair access and baby changing, recorded in OpenStreetMap; the building's own page gives the building's hours, not the restrooms', so treat the recorded hours as a guide.

The Embarcadero Plaza Pit Stop
San Francisco Public Works' Pit Stop program provides "clean and safe public toilets", and "all the Pit Stop facilities are staffed by paid attendants who help ensure that the bathrooms are well maintained and used for their intended purpose." Its list for the Embarcadero has one entry: "Embarcadero Plaza (JCDecaux) - Daily β 9am to 5pm". The city's 2022 announcement of that toilet, the first of its new JCDecaux design, describes it as "across from the Ferry Building", self-cleaning after every use and accessible to people with disabilities, and says it "will be staffed seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m."
Our data records a toilet on Embarcadero Plaza near Clay and Drumm Streets, named "Clay/Drumm" in OpenStreetMap, open to the public, free, wheelchair accessible and open 24 hours. We take it to be the same toilet, though the city's page gives no exact position. The city publishes only the staffed hours, so we cannot confirm the toilet is open outside 9 AM to 5 PM.

Salesforce Transit Center and Salesforce Park
At the southern edge of the half mile, the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, which runs Salesforce Transit Center, says: "There are restrooms located in the Salesforce Park and on the level three Bus Deck." Salesforce Park, on the roof, is open "6 a.m. to 9 p.m." from May 1 to October 31 and "6 a.m. to 8 p.m." from November 1 to April 30, "hours subject to change"; "the Level 3 Bus Deck operates from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m." Our data records two restroom groups in the center, one recorded as open to the public and free, the other as public use allowed with baby changing.

Not covered: the restrooms inside Embarcadero Center's four towers and the restaurants on the piers. Embarcadero Center's own pages say nothing about restrooms, so we have not said whether non-customers can use them.
Every restroom on the map, nearest first
17 places within half a mile of the Ferry Building, from 23 map points (a facility mapped as several points, such as a men's and a women's room, is one place). Distances are straight-line from the center of the area. Each row shows only what OpenStreetMap records for it, after cleaning: a row without hours or access details means the record has none we could show, not that the restroom is closed or locked. OpenStreetMap data from November 2026.
"Open now" and "Closed now" appear only where OpenStreetMap lists a restroom's opening hours: 3 places here, and 1.7% of the US restroom records we use. Those hours are added by volunteers and may be out of date, and "Hours not listed" means only that no hours are recorded.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are there public restrooms in the Ferry Building?
Yes. The Ferry Building says "there are two sets of public restrooms in the north and south ferry terminal pass throughs of the building. All are ADA accessible." The building "opens at 6am and closes at 10pm", though the shops keep their own hours. Our data maps restrooms at both ends of the building.
Is there a public toilet on Embarcadero Plaza?
Yes. San Francisco Public Works lists a staffed Pit Stop at Embarcadero Plaza, the JCDecaux toilet across from the Ferry Building, open "Daily β 9am to 5pm" with an attendant. Our data records a toilet on the plaza near Clay and Drumm Streets as open 24 hours; the city's page gives only the staffed hours, so we cannot confirm it is usable outside them.
Where are the restrooms at Salesforce Transit Center?
The Transbay Joint Powers Authority, which runs the center, says "there are restrooms located in the Salesforce Park and on the level three Bus Deck." Salesforce Park is open 6 AM to 9 PM from May through October and closes at 8 PM from November through April; the Bus Deck operates from 5 AM to 1 AM. The center is at the far edge of the half mile this page covers.
How many public restrooms are near the Ferry Building?
Our map shows 17 restroom places within half a mile of the Ferry Building, 11 of them recorded as open to the public, 13 as wheelchair accessible and 3 with baby changing. 2 are recorded as customers only.
