Public Restrooms at Fisherman's Wharf
17 restrooms within half a mile of Pier 45, from PIER 39 to Ghirardelli Square. 6 wheelchair accessible, 5 free, 2 open 24 hours.
Restrooms along Jefferson Street, from PIER 39 to Aquatic Park
Fisherman's Wharf is a mile of waterfront that visitors walk end to end: PIER 39 and the sea lions at the east, the Pier 45 fishing boats and seafood stands in the middle, then the cable car turnaround, the Maritime park and Ghirardelli Square at the west. The map above opens on the 17 restroom places our data holds within half a mile of Pier 45 at the foot of Taylor Street (a facility mapped as several points counts once). 8 are recorded as open to the public, 5 as free, and 2 as open 24 hours; the rest have no access or hours note in the data.
Unlike some of San Francisco's other busy districts, the Wharf has no staffed Pit Stop toilet (see below), so the restrooms here are the piers', the parks' and the shopping centers' own.
PIER 39
PIER 39's own site describes it as "an accessible facility" with "ramps throughout the property" and elevators to the second level, and says its "operating hours change seasonally". The San Francisco Bay Water Trail's page for the Pier 39 trailhead says: "Accessible public restrooms are located on the north side of Building Q located west of the small boat launch." PIER 39's own pages that we read do not say where its restrooms are, so that is the one placement we can cite.

No Pit Stop here: the city's staffed toilets are elsewhere
San Francisco Public Works runs the Pit Stop program, "clean and safe public toilets" that are "staffed by paid attendants". Its published list has no station at Fisherman's Wharf or in North Beach. The nearest listed stations are Embarcadero Plaza on the Embarcadero (daily 9 AM to 5 PM), about a mile and a half along the waterfront, and Hallidie Plaza at Powell and Market Streets (daily 7 AM to 7 PM), at the other end of the Powell cable car lines. See our Union Square page for that end.

Accessible restrooms and baby changing
Within half a mile of Pier 45 our data records 6 wheelchair accessible restrooms and 1 with a baby changing table. The National Park Service says its San Francisco Maritime visitor center and Maritime Museum at the west end of the Wharf are wheelchair accessible, though its pages do not describe their restrooms, so they are not listed as such here.

Every restroom on the map, nearest first
17 places within half a mile of Pier 45, from 20 map points (a facility mapped as several points, such as a men's and a women's room, is one place). Distances are straight-line from the center of the area. Each row shows only what OpenStreetMap records for it, after cleaning: a row without hours or access details means the record has none we could show, not that the restroom is closed or locked. OpenStreetMap data from October 2026.
"Open now" and "Closed now" appear only where OpenStreetMap lists a restroom's opening hours: 2 places here, and 1.7% of the US restroom records we use. Those hours are added by volunteers and may be out of date, and "Hours not listed" means only that no hours are recorded.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are there public restrooms at Fisherman's Wharf?
Yes. Our map shows 8 of 17 restroom places recorded as open to the public within half a mile of Pier 45, and 5 recorded as free. 2 are recorded as open 24 hours. The list on this page gives each one's distance, access and facilities as recorded in OpenStreetMap.
Where are the restrooms at PIER 39?
The San Francisco Bay Water Trail's Pier 39 page says "accessible public restrooms are located on the north side of Building Q located west of the small boat launch". PIER 39 describes itself as an accessible facility with ramps throughout and elevators to the second level. Its operating hours change seasonally.
Is there a Pit Stop public toilet at Fisherman's Wharf?
No. San Francisco Public Works' staffed Pit Stop toilets are listed for the Castro, Civic Center, the Embarcadero (Embarcadero Plaza, daily 9 AM to 5 PM), Mid-Market, the Mission, Ocean Beach, the Outer Sunset, SoMa and the Tenderloin, but not Fisherman's Wharf or North Beach. Embarcadero Plaza is the closest listed, about a mile and a half along the waterfront.
Which Fisherman's Wharf restrooms are wheelchair accessible?
Our data records 6 wheelchair accessible restrooms within half a mile of Pier 45 and 1 with baby changing. Use the Wheelchair Accessible filter on the map to show only those; a restroom with no accessibility tag in the data may still be accessible.
