Public Restrooms in Charleston's Historic District
19 restrooms within half a mile of the City Market, 8 wheelchair accessible and 7 with baby changing. The city-run ones, their hours, and a map of the nearest to you.
Restrooms around the City Market and King Street
Charleston's historic district is walked, not driven: the City Market, King Street's shops, the Battery and the waterfront are all within about half a mile of each other, and most visitors cover them on foot. The map above opens on the 19 restroom places our data holds within half a mile of the City Market at 188 Meeting Street (a facility mapped as several points counts once). 16 are recorded as open to the public and 0 as customers only; the rest have no access note in the data.
The City of Charleston publishes its own Public Garage and Restroom Guide, which is the basis for the hours below. Its latest printed edition is dated July 2021, so treat the hours as a guide and expect some to have changed. The guide itself warns that "due to the residential nature of the historic district, there will be fewer public restrooms in some areas" and that restrooms "may be locked and available upon request".

Accessible restrooms and baby changing
Within half a mile of the City Market our data records 8 wheelchair accessible restrooms and 7 with a baby changing table. The three restrooms recorded with the City of Charleston as operator, which sit at the Market sheds, are each recorded as accessible, with baby changing and gender neutral. Rows in the list below show these details only where OpenStreetMap has recorded them; a restroom without an accessibility tag may still be accessible.
Two records inside The Charleston Place, the hotel and shopping arcade between Meeting and King Streets, disagree: one says open to the public, the other customers only. The hotel's own website says nothing about restroom access, so neither claim is shown; both rows list only the facilities recorded (accessible, baby changing, free).
Every restroom on the map, nearest first
19 places within half a mile of the City Market, from 20 map points (a facility mapped as several points, such as a men's and a women's room, is one place). Distances are straight-line from the center of the area. Each row shows only what OpenStreetMap records for it, after cleaning: a row without hours or access details means the record has none we could show, not that the restroom is closed or locked. OpenStreetMap data from October 2026.
"Open now" and "Closed now" appear only where OpenStreetMap lists a restroom's opening hours: 0 places here, and 1.7% of the US restroom records we use. Those hours are added by volunteers and may be out of date, and "Hours not listed" means only that no hours are recorded.
