How far can I actually get in 30 minutes?
It depends heavily on the road network - a real 30-minute drive-time area is rarely a circle. At 60 km/h (typical suburban driving) you'd cover roughly 30 km in a straight line, but actual reach is longer along highways and shorter across water, national parks, or dense one-way streets. This tool's estimate uses your chosen average speed to give a quick starting figure.
What's the difference between drive time and a radius map?
A radius map answers "what's within X kilometres" - a straight-line distance question, useful for geofencing and rough coverage. A drive time map answers "what can I reach in X minutes" - a time-budget question shaped by the real road network. If you just need a plain distance circle, use our Radius Map tool instead.
Why does the speed preset matter so much?
Australia's driving speeds vary more than most countries between dense urban streets (often 40 km/h effective) and long regional highways (90+ km/h). Picking the wrong preset can change your estimated area by more than double, so choose the preset that best matches the roads around your starting point.
Can I upload a list of locations to check against my area?
Yes. Upload a CSV of Australian postcodes, coordinates, or addresses and the tool shows which ones fall inside your estimated area, exportable as a CSV of matches.
What formats can I export?
Two options: KML if you want to open the area in Google Earth, or GPX if it's headed to a GPS device. Any uploaded locations that landed inside the area can be pulled out separately as their own CSV.
