Understanding Test Scores

Test scores show the percentage of students who met or exceeded proficiency standards on their state's annual assessments. The two main subjects tested are English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics.

Important: Each state uses its own assessment system, so scores cannot be directly compared across state lines. A 60% proficiency rate in California is not equivalent to 60% in Texas, as the tests and standards differ.
